New Beginnings

The start of my costuming career has officially begun!

I have been lucky enough to get a months paid work in the Costume Workroom at Welsh National Opera in Cardiff Bay. This was totally out of the blue and I got the job through a personal reccomendation.
Im working on the current season's Tristan and Isolde and La Boheme, which involves making and alterations to custom made and original garments.
Lets hope this leads to more opportunities!

I have also managed to secure myself more cstuming experince at home in Devon. I will be working with Bee Watson at The Exeter Costume Box, and we will both become involved with local theatre projects and may lead onto future work.

The final bit of good news is that I have been selected for the final four of the Janet Arnold Patterns of Fashion Award. This came as a shock as I did not expect to get further than the application, and although I feel that I will not win due to the high standard of the other finalists, I am happy and feel privaledged to have got through. Lets see what happens at the final on the 7th July.

Heres to the exciting, and busy future!

The End of an Era

So I have handed in my last pieces of work and my degree is now over.
What a time it has been, the past three hectic years have flown by and have been a mixture of highs and lows!
But this was my last high from the degree, the submission of my supporting work for Blood Wedding:

I decided to use some of the props from the production as inspiration for the presentation of my work ana wanted to create a Spanish, rustic feel to it, with a hint of the play's 1930s setting. I found some old books written in Spanish that I used as sketch books for my notes and photos.
I hope to be able to expand on this work for my exhibition, with the inclusion of costumes, furniture, and more props.
