Final Major Project

As part of my Final Major Project, I was lucky enough to work on the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama production of Blood Wedding.

My role during this production was as a Costume assistant, maker, and dresser. Meaning that I was able to work closely with the designer and the production team from start to finish. This included fabric and costume sourcing, alterations, pattern cutting, costume making, costume fittings, meetings, technical and dress rehearsals, dressing, laundering, hair and make up for show week, and being involved in the theatre get out.

My next step now is to produce the supporting portfolio of work. I plan to do this by presenting my work in old, Spanish books; as part of a display using similar props to those used in the show.

My Costuming life so far...

I am currently studying on my final year of the BA (hons) Costume Construction for Screen & Stage course at Coleg Morgannwg/University of Glamorgan.

Its been a busy few years full of lots of hard work, but Ive enjoyed it at the same time! This course has enabled me to improve my sewing and pattern cutting skills, as well as to gain first hand industry experience in a variety of positions in costume for screen, stage, and costume hire.

I have been lucky enough to have worked on many Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama theatre productions, the World Skills 2011 opening ceremony, and Its My Shout!, to name a few; and undertook work experience at Flame Torbay Costume Hire, the Royal Opera House stores, and Plymouth Theatre Royal.

Through these experiences I have gained a greater understanding of how both small and large scale events and companies work, and the role that costume plays within these. I feel that this has helped to boost my confidence and positively changed the way I work as a costumier.
